About the Event
We all live in bodies-our physical homes and holders of our life force. We and our clients bring their bodies and the stories we hold about them into every session. While your practice may not focus on clients with eating disorders or other body-related diagnoses, it’s important to know how to work with body size diversity. More than a presentation, this training offers both education and the chance to reflect as practitioners around our own bodies and biases we may hold.
This professional training is designed to help mental health practitioners engage in better, more inclusive, and ethical work with clients in diverse bodies. Participants will be able to:
o Understand the Body Positive Movement and debunk myths around body size and health.
o Differentiate between disordered eating, Eating Disorders, and other body terminology.
o Explore and challenge your own ideas and biases around bodies and how it enters the therapy office.
o Gain the ability to recognize and challenge non-inclusive language as it relates to body size diversity.
o Realize the body positive movement through the lens of social justice and diversity.
Join us for this combination of reflective self-work and relevant education around research and implementable therapeutic strategies.
This training will be led by Jesie Steffes, LPC & Lateka Salley, LCSW
